Digestive Enzymes

Digestive enzymes provide the foundation of this formula by improving the digestion of consumed foods.  This improved digestion can make more energy-giving nutrients available for use in metabolic processes.  To help ensure that these available macronutrients are properly metabolized, the next tier of this blend includes B vitamins.  B complex vitamins play vital roles in the metabolism of protein, carbohydrates, and fat.  The final tier of this approach uses a unique blend of extracts which have been traditionally used to fight fatigue and increase both stamina and mental alertness.  This tier includes herbal adaptogens, ginkgo, and an extract from the antioxidant-rich acai fruit.  Herbal adaptogens such as ginseng and eleuthero have been shown to help the body adapt to daily environmental stresses and ward off stress associated fatigue.  Gingko augments the effects of the adaptogens by improving cerebral circulation.  Improved cerebral circulation may help to increase cognitive function and vigilance, providing a sense of mental alertness and clarity.

Proteolytic Enzymes

Protease 3.0 is characterized by its ability to hydrolyze proteins under acid conditions.  The broad specificity of acid-stable protease enables the enzyme to, easily and efficiently, hydrolyze most soluble proteins.  Because protease 3.0 has an effective pH range of 2.75 to 4.7, it is uniquely suited to work synergistically with endogenous pepsin to provide protein digestion in the stomach.

Protease 4.5 is a mixture of acid, neutral, and alkaline proteases that demonstrate both exo-peptidase and endo-peptidase activity with high substrate specificity.  Protease 4.5 has an effective pH range of 2.75 to 6.25.  For this reason, protease 4.5 works synergistically with endogenous enzymes to provide protein digestion in the stomach and superior duodenal region of the small intestine.

The proteolytic enzymes in this formula are used to help digest protein to produce amino acids, which are important building blocks in the human body.  The amino acids are used to build muscles, metabolic enzymes, neurotransmitters, and many other essential biochemicals. 

Proprietary Lipolytic Enzyme Blend

BioCore® Lipo-I catalyzes the hydrolysis of triglycerides of simple fatty acid esters, yielding mono- and diglycerides, glycerol and free fatty acids.  This blend of lipases is able to catalyze the hydrolysis of fatty acids from all three positions of the triglyceride, making for a more complete digestion of the triglyceride.  It has broad substrate specificity on the fats and oils of vegetable and animal origins.  These lipases work synergistically with endogenous enzymes to help digest fatty foods.

Supplementing with this lipolytic blend can help the body to properly digest the extra fat today’s modern diet.  Considerable digestive distress and even malabsorption of nutrients such as vitamins A and E can result from improper fat digestion.

Carbohyrdolytic Enzymes

Amylase will randomly hydrolyze the interior alpha-1,4-glucosidic bonds of starch to release simple sugars for digestion. This enzyme works synergistically with endogenous human amylase to digest starchy foods.

Glucoamylase will hydrolyze terminal 1,4-linked alpha-D-glucose residues successively from non-reducing ends of amylose chains to release free glucose.  This enzyme also possesses the ability to hydrolyze alpha-1,6-glucosidic linkages in isomaltose and dextrins.  This enzyme works synergistically with endogenous human amylase and supplemental amylase to potentiate the complete digestion of carbohydrate rich foods.

This combination of carbohydrases is designed to improve carbohydrate digestion, which allows for the availability of more simple sugars from the carbohydrates consumed.  Improved carbohydrate digestion enables a person to receive the maximum amount of nutrients and energy available from their carbohydrate intake.

B Vitamins

Vitamin B1 (Thiamin) is what is essential for normal neurological function and is required for the body to metabolize carbohydrates.  Scientific research suggests that Thiamin provides metabolic support, nervous system support, and mood support.

Cabbage Palm (Acai) berry is native to tropical Central and South America.  Acai is known for its reddish-purple fruit.  Research is currently centered on the potential antioxidant properties of the acai fruit.  In vitro work with acai fruit has shown the potential for anti-inflammatory activity.  Though acai is a relative newcomer to the dietary supplement market, the carbohydrate-rich fruit has been traditionally consumed in Central and South America as a healthful and natural source of nutrition and energy.
